After being injured in the military I went through some really dark times. The darkness was crippling pain, many surgeries, mass amounts of prescriptions, mixed opinions from medical staff on treatment and mostly the unknown. I didn’t see a future for myself that I looked forward to. I was lost.
It wasn’t until the military sent me to the Center For The Intrepid that my eyes saw light in my life again. I saw a future that I could look forward to. I received exceptional care that I didn’t know existed. I received an experience that I started to believe was only going to be a dream. My dream had come true!
Although all of the staff at the CFI were incredible, Wayne and Hillary were my angels. They have the title of Physical Therapist but they are so much more.
Wayne and Hillary have the innate ability to guide you through the complex healing process. Every day I was around these guys I became healthier both mentally and physically. They have a genuine passion for helping and healing people.
Part of my healing process included an IDEO. This style brace was my last ditch effort before amputation. I was a bit skeptical, but I was so hopeful. I learned quickly that the IDEO is great but it’s only as good as your training on how to truly use it. Going through the IDEO program with Wayne and Hillary pushed me from limping around in pain to walking, running and playing sports again. I can still remember the feeling of running again and the feeling of strength. Wayne and Hillary made me believe in me again!
I owe my active mobility, strong mental health and positive future to Wayne and Hillary. I am forever grateful to these angels.

I first met Wayne and Hilary at one of the most difficult times in my life. I was recovering from multiple severe injuries to my lower body, stuck in the slow process of recovering while not being able to do the work I loved. It was truly a struggle waking up every day and finding the motivation to keep trying, even with the excellent care I received from the military.
When I entered the Return 2 Run program, headed by the Strubes, that all changed. I began looking forward to the early mornings and challenging workouts. I received specific, personal care that helped me see a way forward through my injuries. Physical therapy became fun, and I knew that these two and their team wanted to see me make the best recovery possible.
It wasn’t easy learning to use the IDEO, and I’m sure that’s the case for any orthotic or prosthetic. But thanks to Wayne and Hilary, I am six years out from my injury and able to do almost everything I could before I was hurt. Hiking, spending time with family outdoors and just managing all the mobility that everyday life requires – it’s all thanks to their program that I am where I am today.
They helped me see my injuries as obstacles, not dead ends. Their consummate professionalism, expertise and personal attention is something I’ll forever be grateful for.

I was an avid runner, cyclist, weight lifter and active duty military when I had a traumatic ankle injury. This injury had my life and my military career on hold as I struggled with normal daily tasks because of the extreme pain I was in. It was bad enough that I resorted to crawling around the house instead of walking.
After meeting with many Doctors one specialist told me about the IDEO. This is when Wayne and Hilary entered my life. Wayne was the director of the Return 2 Run program for IDEO recipients at the CFI. I would say the IDEO was life changing and I was able to return to the things I love. However, without out the support and guidance from Wayne during the Return 2 Run program none of it would be possible.
Since we first met in 2015 Wayne and Hilary have been my go to for everything PT related. Recently a shoulder injury sidelined me and I contacted them for their steadfast professional knowledge.
I feel fortunate that I have them on my team. Hands down the best in the business!
